For Immediate Release—Worcester, MA: Living in Freedom Together (LIFT) recently announced the launch of its new website with updated program descriptions, information about pending legislation, a clear brand purpose statement, and a streamlined referral process.

LIFT has recently changed its website to provide more information and clarity about its programs. The website now includes additional ways that members of the community can support LIFT’s work, including donating, volunteering, or learning more about the violent sex trade. LIFT has also added a new page, “Our Brand Purpose”, emphasizing that LIFT is a community of unconditional acceptance, support, and encouragement. This new clarity around our brand’s purpose will only help expand our reach and goals.

The new website will help the community understand exactly what LIFT does and why. It includes information about the EMMA (Equality Model MA) Coalition, “An Act To Strengthen Justice and Support for Sex Trade Survivors” (H.1761 and S.940), bill that LIFT is helping to pass in the Massachusetts legislature. The updated “Vision and Mission” page describes the importance of the Equality Model - a comprehensive approach to abolishing the sex trade and addressing systems of violence in Massachusetts. The website offers a thorough explanation of the legislation, as well as a way for readers to get involved.

“Our new brand purpose statement will help explain who we are, why our work is crucial, and the importance of changing systems and supporting survivors. Our focus on the Equality Model will help members both in the Worcester community and the greater Northeast to learn more about LIFT and how to support us. We hope that these website materials help people to better understand violence that is the sex trade, the harms of prostitution, and how to support survivors in our community,” said Courtney Ross Escobar, Chief Operating Officer and In-house Legal Counsel for LIFT.

LIFT is unique among nonprofit organizations because it is led by survivors, for survivors. The organization focuses on creating comprehensive exit strategies and is constantly expanding its network and reach. The goal of the website is to expand LIFT’s reach across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

“Our new website is a tool to expand our reach so survivors can access the resources that they need while continuing to educate and engage the community on how they can join us in our work to end the violent, racist, and exploitive sex trade” said Nikki Bell, Chief Executive Officer and Director of LIFT. “With the new website, we can draw more people to support LIFT and take the next step in our development.”

The survivor-led organization has created several programs in Worcester and Massachusetts such as Jana’s Place, the first recovery home for women who have been prostituted or exploited with co-occuring substance use disorder and mental health disorders. During the height of the COVID19 due to existing shelters not meeting the needs of, and harming prostituted women , LIFT opened HARBOR (Housing, Advocacy, Room & Board, Outreach, and Rehousing), a low-barrier, maximum-vulnerability shelter in Worcester. LIFT has also expanded to offer a youth mentoring program TYME, Recovery Retreat, pre-arraignment diversion program (CATI), court advocacy program, and more. LIFT’s work in the community is invaluable, and the website will only make it easier for the non-profit to connect with more survivors in need.
